This Friday night I did somethings I never really imagined I would. I have to thank Twitter and some amazing new friends for this adventure.
Let me back up. So, I am on Twitter or I do Twitter or whatever verb you use in reference to Twitter. And on Twitter I follow some pretty amazing people. Like truly a.may.zing people. One of the people that I follow is a woman named Elizabeth (@ElizabethPW). She has many friends, and many businesses and many just general cool things about her. I enjoy watching her on her journey of living her truth and her friendships that she has formed from Twitter. Another person that I follow is a guy named Ori (@CouchSurfingOri). He is actually on the receiving end of a friendship developed from social media with Elizabeth and other than that is a really cool dude. A dude who couch surfs. And right now he is couch surfing in Austin. And Elizabeth came to visit him and they had a tweet up. Which was actually kind of my idea, but I digress. Well, actually, I will explain. Ori has a radio show on Monday nights and I was listening and she was listening and the three of us got into a conversation on the chat part of the radio show website and then all of a sudden they were having a tweetup.
One of the reasons why Elizabeth came to Austin was for adventure. She had never tried Sake before and so that tweetup was at a Japanese restaurant so she could have Sake. Well, I have never tried sushi or sake before, so I went to the restaurant up in Austin to meet two people I had only met over the internet and partake in something I never thought I would. I didn’t eat any raw fish, but I did eat Cucumber rolls, Veggie rolls, and Philadelphia rolls and drink (warm) sake. It was awesome, and it was quite an adventure for me.
I wasn’t sure what the conversations were going to be like while there. Was everyone going to be working some sort of agenda? But, one of the really cool parts of this was truly realizing that these people that I follow on twitter are just real people too. Just because they have over 10,000 followers each, they were willing to spend their Friday night with about a dozen of people they had never met before or probably would never have met if it weren’t for social media. We talked about our kids and told some jokes and just hung out. They were both super nice! While I was there I met another really neat gal, (@LuAnnGlowacz) and all in all it was wonderful. My hubby did go with me, I guess he was needing an adventure too.
Yes, I know I just wrote a post about my awesome Friday night meeting people that I met through Twitter. And I am okay with it.
